Lansdowne Classic Motorcycle Series uses Avon’s.
The Lansdowne Classic Motorcycle Series is dedicated to preserving the spirit of historic grand prix motorcycle racing. The objective for the series is to allow genuine and faithful replicas of ‘Group 1 and Period 1’ motorcycles to race together in a gentlemanly fashion that does not allow for modified or more modern bikes.
For 2012 the series is split into two segments.
The Bonhams British Historic GP Championship which is for 500cc machines prepared to a strict specification that will see the bikes race as they did in the 1950’s and early 1960’s. The BHGPC will use Avon Racing Tyres exclusively for the 1st time in 2012 using the 90/90-19 front and 100/90-19 rear race versions of the Avon AM26 Roadrider.
The WRR Lansdowne Cup caters for the Clubmen and is open to both 350cc and 500cc bikes and runs to a lest strict specification but instead rewards racers with extra points for running with the correct period specification.
The AM26 although a relatively new design is perfectly suited to the championship as it allows competitors to race with the original 19” diameter sized rims whilst enjoying the grip offered by a combination of modern tyre design and Avons race tyre compounds.
Steve Smith, Avon Motorsport Motorcycle sales manager said “It’s fantastic to be involved with such a prestigious and exciting race series as the Lansdowne and it’s great to see more and more of the bikes racing on the original size of wheels.”
The 2012 season starts at Pembrey on April 7th and consists of 8 rounds at the following circuits:
April 7/9th Pembrey
May 19/20th Cadwell
June 4/5th Oulton Park
July7/9th Snetterton
